Our Story
Nature is a magic theatre. And in the great mother’s magic play, we all play our little roles.
We’re Redefining Wildlife Travel
India is home to some of the world’s most spectacular ecosystems, and conventional safari excursions only scratch the surface of what they have to offer. At Canopy Wild, we adopt a different approach. We don’t believe that the wild is a bucket list waiting to be ticked off. Each of our forays into the wilderness is designed to make you feel the magnitude of the landscape that you’re exploring, and get a glimpse into lives of the fauna that resides within them. We don’t just rely on safaris; we work extensively on the ground to find the right blend of treks, offbeat explorations and local experiences to showcase the true vibrance of Indian jungles in an ethical and conservation-minded manner.
Our Roots
My name is Rudraksha Rishi Mitra, and Canopy Wild is my labour of love. My first journey into the wild was at the ripe age of six months, which has led to a lifetime of adventures across hundreds of ecosystems throughout the country. If you ever find yourself on one of our expeditions, then I hope to regale you with stories from a few of them.
I am a researcher by training. I worked in sustainable development for several years before going on to study at the London School of Economics, where I did research on human-tiger relations in Indian forests and how the lives of indigenous communities intersect with the environment in the modern-day context. However, my understanding of nature and wildlife continues to be defined not by what I see or study, but by what I feel in the vast expanses of India’s jungles.
These feelings — be it the mix of awe and tension that comes with encountering a tiger in its most pristine habitat, or pure gratitude evoked by the unbridled kindness of my forest-dwelling friends who help me in my journeys through their lands — have been the source of the greatest memories of my life. It is precisely this that I hope to create for you through Canopy Wild.
